Mt. Takao has been revered as a sacred mountain since ancient times. In the mountain, there is Yakuo-in Temple, whose principal deity is Izuna Daigongen.
Hojo Ujiteru, the Tokugawa Shogunate, sericultural farmers, and silk merchants have all cherished Mt. Takao along with their beliefs throughout the ages, and the mountain is rich in nature.
Various traditional arts of “Soto(Hachioji)”(Kiyari, Shishimai, Hachioji Kuruma Ningyo, and Hachioji Geigi) participate in the annual events at Yakuo-in and other events at Mt.Takao.
You will be able to experience the culture of Soto at Mt.Takao. This is a good example of the connection between the people of Hachioji and Mt.Takao.
