Japanese cedars avenue in Mt.Takao– Japanese cedars in Mt.Takao① –

Giant Japanese cedar trees, said to be 700 years old, line the approach to Yakuo-in Temple. This row of cedar trees is designated as a natural monument by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
This cedars avenue is a good example of how Mt.Takao has been protected by people since ancient times. The cedars avenue that accentuates the view of the approach is called “Osugihara.”
There is a legend that the cedar is a “Tengu no koshikake sugi” (Tengu sits on this cedar and watches over the visitors).
Early in the morning or after it rains, the mist hanging over the treetops of the huge cedar is a scene that symbolizes “Reiki-Manzan”.
