It is considered one of the oldest shrines in Hachioji.During the Edo period, the shrine was granted a vermilion seal by the Tokugawa shogunate, and its crest came to feature the Mitsuba Aoi, a symbol associated with the Tokugawa family. The main deity, Konohanasakuya-hime no Mikoto, is revered as a goddess of safe childbirth and child-rearing. Even today, the shrine hosts a variety of child-related ceremonies, including prayers for safe delivery, crying baby sumo, and Shichi-Go-San celebrations. Most of the buildings within the shrine grounds were destroyed in the Great Hachioji Fire of 1897 and the 1945 air raids. However, the main hall of the Konpira Shrine survived and still preserves Edo-period architectural styles.
