Ichimori Otori Shrine

Ichimori Otori Shrine is a combined shrine dedicated to deities from both Ichimori Shrine and Otori Shrine. After the fall of Hachioji Castle in 1590, the town of Hachioji was relocated to its present location. Markets were subsequently held in Yokoyama-juku on days ending in four and in Yokaichi-juku on days ending in eight. Ichimori Shrine was established as the guardian deity of these markets, enshrining Ukanomitama no Mikoto, the god of commerce and bountiful harvests. In the mid-Edo period, the shrine also came to enshrine Ame-no-Hiwashi no Mikoto, the deity of Otori Shrine, who was worshipped as a god of good fortune and prosperity. This led to the formation of the present-day Ichimori Otori Shrine. The main festival of Ichimori Shrine is the Hatsuuma Festival, held on the first Horse Day in February. In contrast, the main festival of Otori Shrine is the Otori Festival, commonly known as “Tori-no-Ichi” or “O-Tori-sama,” held on Rooster Days in November.
