Joshin-mon Gate of Yakuo-in Temple– Cultural properties of Yakuo-in Temple⑥ –

Joshin-mon Gate stands at the entrance to the approach to Yakuo-in Temple, with Hengaku(a signboard) reading “Reiki-Manzan”. This gate indicates that the area beyond this point is a sanctuary.
Although Yakuo-in is a Buddhist temple, this gate is called Ryoubutorii, which is the same shape as a Shinto shrine gate.
As you pass through the gate, you will see a hall called Jinpen-do, which is dedicated to Enno Gyoja, who is said to be the founder of Shugendo (mountain asceticism).
There is also a “forbidden killing” stone monument that tells us that Mt. Takao has been strictly about killing for a long time.
