The origins of Hachioji textiles are said to date back to the 16th century, when silk textiles were traded in the Takiyama Castle area.
Woven Fabrics have been improved and refined over the past 400 years.
Traditional woven fabrics woven in Hachioji and its surrounding areas were designated as “Tama Woven Fabrics” as a national traditional craft in 1980.
The Hachioji Textile Trade Center (Hachioji Textile Industry Association) exhibits and sells Tama Woven Fabrics and other Hachioji textiles.
In addition, the center also holds events where visitors can experience weaving.
